Game 1: Rockets 13, Pylons 12

This picture has very little to do with our game but I liked it, so I posted it.

The Rockets had their hands full with the renamed Traveling Band (now called the Pylons) in the 2019 season opener. It looked like it was going to be a walk in the park as the Rockets started out on offense and Rick marched the team right down the field. Several nice catches/runs by Chad and a touchdown throw to Grobo (Jason XP), and it felt like the game was in the bag. The Pylons showed some resiliency though, as their defense made some nice plays breaking to the ball, and their offense went no huddle in an attempt to wear down the Rockets defense. The strategy eventually worked, as the Pylons ran, dinked and dunked their way for a touchdown on an out route (but failed to convert the extra point). The score was 7-6 rockets at halftime.

The Pylons opened with the ball in the second half, and on the second play from scrimmage, Rockets pressure on their QB forced an errant pass that hit Richie right in the stomach for a pick. That was the break the Rockets needed as momentum switched back and Rick engineered another TD drive, this time connecting with Mark R. (XP failed). After that, the game went back and forth a bit until the Pylons made a final push at the end of the game, frustrating the Rockets defense with linemen releases, and eventually scored. They went for two points, and Richie broke up the attempt in the end zone to seal the victory.

Our new center Vince was perfect with the snaps and applied good pressure from the D-line, but the Week 1 game ball goes to Richie for his timely interception and defensive stop on the final conversion.

The Rockets survived the Week 1 thriller and now hope to stay undefeated next week against the Bullsharks at 10:30 a.m.
